Optimize Your Graphics

Your Audience Really Cares!

While preparing the page on Internet Search Engine Hints I downloaded the logos from MSN, Google and Yahoo. I'm putting their examples below and how much time they are causing people to wait when visiting their site with just the one graphic.

It is optimum to have a TOTAL of 30K text and graphics on one web page.

Bottom Line . . . It would take 1 min, 36 second for the 3 graphics on the left hand side to download if a person were using a 56K modem on an analog phone line like we have at our house.

You can easily use inexpensive programs like Adobe ImageStyler or Macromedia Fireworks to downsize your graphics. There are other low-cost programs out there too. PhotoShop also downsizes the graphics, it's just an expensive tool. Try Adboe PhotoTools instead.
